Borlase Pictures from the Past

I would like to include on this page, photographic memories of
Sir William Borlase' School
and invite any Old Borlasians who visit this website, to send me copies of
any photographs that they have which they would like to see here.

The photograph below was taken almost certainly early in 1945, outside Mrs Tidy's tuckshop.  I am the scruffy little boy, eighth in from the left hand side (looking at the camera) and behind me,wearing the cap, is Maurice Davies.   I can also recognise Graham King, Peter Grace, David Hazelby, Ron Burroughs, Peter Harriman and Jimmy Platt.

Another view of the tuckshop taken in June 2000.   The sign says that the tuckshop existed for 150 years.  Who remembers the tuppence-halfpenny Blockbusters. Tidystuckshop2.JPG (14680 bytes)

The Saxons Junior XV (or some of the less exhausted), immediately after winning the inter-house junior rugby cup 1946

This is me, Bob Philbey and John Philpott.  We were supposed to be cross-country running.  (John later married one of my cousins).

This is a cheat really because it is a picture taken when the Marlow Players made a first attempt at putting on Shakespeare in the Church Hall, Marlow.  We performed MacBeth and The Merry Wives of Windsor and the tall, handsome man with the long moustache is Russell Sage (alias MacBeth).   I am the kneeling page ("As I did stand my watch upon the hill type"!). The witch to the left is Mrs Rands, wife of the school Physics master and I had the distinction of playing the back end of a cow to her front end in "Dick Whittington", one of Jane Toller's pantomimes,  later on.

Russell Sage also taught me how to row and in this picture is shown with the second four in 1948.   I am on the left of the picture as you look at it, with Francis Smith, Mike Davies and Jim Brown who later became School Captain.  The cox was a young boy called McDonald.    Francis Smith later became headmaster of the Marlow Boys School and is more recently better  known as the man who introduced the now famous Steve Redgrave to rowing

Russell Sage was a popular and well known School and Marlow rowing personality and on the 17th September 2000 the school named one of two new boats in his honour.

The Russell Sage in a familiar setting!

Alan Ure sent me this picture of himself shortly after he left school.  Anyone recognise this handsome young airman??
